Quality vs quantity

I've always considered one thing to shine and stand out in the midst of one hundred test papers, projects, players, students, kids, movies, teams, armies and men and women in general. Quality is, in the most simplest of definitions and explanations, something which makes an object or person valuable, unique, interesting and cunning. Quality is something which should be treasured, sought after and refined to the point where that person or thing can reach or be at its, his or her optimum potential and skill or strength. Quanitity, on the other hand is something which can be measured physically and numerically, but not necessarily visually and mentally. Something which is said to be very quantitative may be large in frame, size or numbers. An army can have 1000,000 men, a team can have more players and bench players than any other team in the sharing league. A pianist or person can practice their pieces or whatever they practice ( such as a sport, a form of art, a hobby) over and over extensively, and a student in school can write a 100 page essay. If, however, any of these above people and things lack quality, which makes their hard work and large units stand out due to unique and valuable attributes and skills, then their efforts are to be considered futile. I've heard of many stories, how a small group of armed men can take out an army, and how a hockey team full of team players can beat and thrash a team with the best stars in the league, and how there are kids and people you see everyday who, though they work extremely hard with no pauses or breaks, still have chinks and flaws in their character and overall abilities while some people who seem very unproductive and easy going have more awareness, talents and friends/accomplishments overall.

So is it good to only have quality, and leave out quantity? No, it isn't. Why have only 1 good friend who can truly relate to you and understand you when you can have a few more? Why only play one sport and excel at it when you can try many other sports and excel at them? Why choose to be good at only one piece or song when you can be good at many other pieces and songs? Why only establish a relationship with 1 girl or woman, and promise to never go for another, even when you could possibly leave her or lose her in the future? Always consider the pros of both quantity and quality, but remember that quality always comes first. On another note, many people have a hard time obtaining both. As you are reading this note right now, millions of people around the world, not just in africa or south asia, are dying. Why? Because they can't obtain the quality and quantity of food, water, education, safety and clothing. So, in all, it's important to have both quality and quantity, but remember why we have them for: To share and to give to other people so that they, too, will achieve their optimum potentials.
